THE END OF THE GAME?
Footage I shot of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) veterinarian and sharpshooter (Mathew Mutinda) darting one of twenty-three black rhino belonging to a private ranch in Laikipia hit hard by poachers. KWS rangers crated and trucked most of the rhino to Ruma National Park on the shores of Lake Victoria, hundreds of miles away.
This clip and others of the rhino darting and move will appear as an interactive tool accompanying my NEWSWEEK feature due out today about the current poaching frenzy in Africa.
You need to go online to buy this week’s new digital issue (Jan 25th) with the cover titled “Hands off our Guns”.
(With all due respect to David Mamet, the cover should have been “Hands off Our Rhino” :))
